Astral Plane Dr. Strange

Astral Strange has always fascinated me, how cool would it be to travel outside your body and go do whatever the hell you want? I wonder how many times he went into the girls locker room during P.E… Anyhow, what I really wanted to do was make this custom a translucent version, that’s how I had envisioned it, but there’s no way I could cast an entire figure. So I tried to recreate the translucent look by giving it a pearlized paint scheme to create the illusion of a sparkly clear look.

Zombie Captain America

One of my first customs, the inspiration for this guy came from the comic series of which I was a huge fan of. Two of my favorite things, Zombies and Marvel Superheroes! The base for this guy was an Al Simmons from the Spawn Mutations series. This was back when all I was using was Sculpey, before I discovered epoxy putty. Shield is 100% sculpt. I went for a really torn up look, like he had been battling for years and years. Note the buckshot to the chest.

Zodak (Unmasked)

I will never understand why Zodak didn’t get the second head treatment. I mean, he was only unmasked most of the time during the 2002 Mike Young Productions cartoon series. How many other, less iconic characters have gotten second 200x specific heads? Whiplash, Mossman (Ok, that one is awesome!) and Fisto are just a couple off the top of my head. Fisto even got a 200x specific belt.
This is actually my second version of the unmasked head, being much better, in my opinion, than the first one I did. The base head I used is Anderson Silva from the Jakks Pacific UFC line. Those heads work great for the scale of MOTUC, and this head in particular works absolutely perfect for Zodak! After finding the perfect head, I sculpted Zodak’s jaw ‘armor?’ to mimic the cartoon, with a little extra added flair. I have since molded and cast the heads so fans all over the world can enjoy this exclusive variant head!
I brought 25 of these pieces, fully painted, to the very first Power-Con in Los Angeles in September, 2011. Only two hours into the 2 day convention, I was completely sold out! Just goes to show how popular this variant head could be, should Mattel decide to produce one. Would be a great addition for a head pack.

Swamp Chomp

I think an alligator type character would fit in flawlessly with MOTU. Originally with this concept, I had wanted to do a character from the Tar Swamps, and this may or not be him, but I figured an alligator would be pretty perfect. Someday I would like to do an actual Tar Swamp character, like a character all covered in dripping tar, like he had just risen from the depths of the swamp. But for now, Swamp Chomp will have to do! I always try to give my characters very MOTU-like names, and somehow I came up with “Swamp Chomp”, which I think fits in perfectly with the wacky but always awesome names of the MOTUverse! This recipe is fairly basic, with not a WHOLE lot of sculpting and modification, but still a time consuming project nonetheless.

For the head, I used a Schleich Crocodile, with the head chopped off and Dremeled the neck hole and neck post hole so as to fit a MOTUC neck peg. I then had to sculpt the back of the head for a round appearance, and gave it some texture to mimic scales/ crocodile hide. For the most part I used a Whiplash base with MerMan arms and feet, Skeletor loin cloth and Webstor armor. The necklace is leather string with minor sculpting. The wooden shield is a fully sculpted custom piece, that I had originally made for Mossman, but it makes for an awesome accessory for Swamp Chomp!

Superman V2.0

My second version of a custom Superman on a MOTUC buck. There are still a lot of improvements I am working on, mainly in the crotch/ loin cloth area. The furry loin wasn’t exactly an ideal piece to start with for Superman, but I worked with what I had. I Dremeled and sanded lot on this guy, started with Tri-Klops forearms and shaped the gauntlets into muscle structure. Same with the boots, started with furry He-Man boots, Dremeled, sanded and epoxied for a smooth surface. Sanded the loin cloth and belt rivets, and He-Ro’s headband for a smooth forehead. Oh and nipples too. :)
‘S’ chest symbol is hand painted, this took me a while to perfect it, but I wanted it exact. Recipe is standard MOTUC male buck, Tri-Klops forearms, standard furry loin cloth and boots, and He-Ro cape. I actually repacked this figure for a customer in the Toys R Us exclusive DC Universe Vs. Masters of the Universe Classics packaging with He-Man holding a custom cast Kryptonite Power Sword!

Reactor

I guess this guy has powers pretty similar to Blast Attak, but I actually had Marvel’s Nitro character in mind when I made him. Must have been reading Civil War at the time… I wanted to make him completely different of course, so I thought it would be cool if this guy got his powers from a huge nuclear reactor strapped to him. I went for the Kirby-esque energy patterns on the energy window, I always liked that style of depicting energy and I figured it was easily recognizable for what it was. For this guy, I used a full faker figure with the exception of the head, which was supplied by a Jakks Pacific WWE Kane. Lots of sculpting with epoxy putty completes the figure.
